A sex coach's guide to navigating new sexual experiences

I was asked recently to write a piece about navigating new experiences, by Sensuali, a website which aims to help people safely and pleasurably explore their desires. I think this info is much-needed so am giving a preview of the piece below, and if you'd like to read the whole thing you can click through to Sensuali (free).

The world of sex: huge, diverse, juicy and waiting for you to explore. As you’re here on Sensuali, I’ll assume you’re keen to seek out new experiences… or at least are in the early stages of considering doing so.

Like lots in life, in order for such experiences to go well, some forward planning and mental preparation can really help. We tend to imagine ‘good sex’ should be easy, spontaneous and wordless… but as a sex coach, I know that’s not how it works. Communication is essential whatever your style of encounter, and planning too, especially when aiming to keep things hot in a long term relationship or trying something new. Of course those two things often go hand in hand!

Here are some factors to think about in advance when considering a new experience:

  • Understand WHY you want to try this

  • Get clear on your boundaries

  • Consider how you will communicate before, during, after

  • Take things slooooooooowly

  • Prepare both your body and your mind

  • Exploring with a partner? Ensure you're in a good place together first

  • Acknowledge - and learn from - your nerves

  • Plan good aftercare

To read more on all these points, head to the piece on Sensuali by clicking here.
